This Cookie Policy explains how we use cookies and similar tracking methods — pixels, SDKs, JavaScript, local storage, device identifiers and the like, which we call “trackers” — when you visit our site. “Our site” means our websites, our emails and any other service that links to this policy, such as milestested.com and its subdomains.
This policy explains what the various tracking methods are and why they are used. It also explains your right to control them.
We may change this Cookie Policy at any time. Check the “last revised” date at the top of this page to see when it was last changed. Any change takes effect when we post the revised policy on the site.
Where we use trackers to collect information that is personally identifiable — or that becomes personally identifiable when combined with other information — our Privacy Policy applies as well as this one.
If you have any questions, please write to us at [email protected].
1. What is a tracker?
We use several kinds of tracker. The six main types are explained below. This list covers every category we use, although which ones appear depends on how you use the site.
We use trackers so our servers can recognize your browser and tell us how and when you visit and otherwise use the site, to analyze trends, and to learn about our readers so we can improve the site and your experience.
We may combine non-personally identifiable information collected through trackers with other personal information we hold about you — for example, to tell us who you are or whether you have an account. We may also supplement what we collect from you with information received from third parties, to improve the site or to offer you something we believe may be of interest.
A) Cookies
A cookie is a small string of text that a website stores in your browser. It saves data about your visit to our site or to other sites, and usually includes a unique identifier.
First-party cookies are set by us, or on our behalf, on our site. Third-party cookies are set by other companies whose functionality is embedded in our site, for example google.com.
Session cookies are temporary and stored on your device only while you are on the site; they expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay in your browser for a period after you leave, and expire on a set date or when you delete them.
You can choose whether to accept cookies in your browser settings. If you refuse them, parts of the site may work worse or not at all.
B) Pixels
Pixels — also called web beacons, GIFs or bugs — are one-pixel transparent images placed on web pages or in messages. They record whether you have opened that page or message. When a pixel fires it logs the visit and may read or set cookies.
C) JavaScript
JavaScript is a programming language. It can be used to write trackers that, embedded in a page, let us measure how you interact with our site and with others.
D) Software Development Kits (SDKs)
SDKs are pieces of code provided by our digital vendors — third-party advertising companies, ad networks and analytics providers — to collect and analyze certain device and user data.
E) Device identifiers
Device identifiers are user-resettable identifiers made of numbers and letters, unique to one device and stored on it. They are used to recognize you or your devices on, off and across different apps and devices, for marketing and advertising.
F) ID synching
To decide what kind of ad might interest you, our digital and marketing vendors sometimes link data — inferred from your browsing of other sites, or collected from other sources — using a method known as ID synching or cookie synching.
2. What trackers do we use, and what for?
These are the types of tracker that appear on our site.
- Essential trackersRequired for the site to work and to give you the features you asked for.
- Analytics trackersCollect or use information about how the site is used, which helps us improve it.
- Marketing trackersHelp us decide which Miles Tested ads to show you, both here and on other sites.
- Advertising trackersHelp us and our advertising partners decide which third-party ads are selected for you.
3. How do I manage trackers?
You can change your tracker settings at any time. Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but that is usually something you can adjust. Instructions for each browser are here:
- Safari, on desktop and on mobile
- Firefox
- Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
To opt out of Google Analytics collection, follow Google’s own instructions for the browser opt-out add-on.
The third-party advertisers, agencies and vendors we work with may be members of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) or the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA). To opt out of interest-based advertising, visit AboutAds.info on a computer or AppChoices on a mobile device.

None of these cookies went stale. The toiletry bag did not leak, either.
